Yorktown’s PTA proudly supports the school’s educational mission by funding grants to teachers and staff to support a variety of school-based projects and efforts. Generally, the PTA opens the grants application process twice each year, in the fall and spring. Grant applications are evaluated on their merits with the goal of improving the educational process for the maximum number of students.
The following general principles guide the award of grant funds.
Successful grant applications will:
- Relate to or extend Yorktown’s academic mission
- Benefit a significant number of students
- Provide a benefit not otherwise funded by APS or Yorktown school funds
- Be submitted by YHS faculty or staff members only

In recent grants cycles, the PTA has awarded funds to support the following projects:
- Sets of books for English classrooms
- Furniture to make a more comfortable learning environment suited for group work and discussion-based classes
- Funding for teachers and counselors to attend various professional development conferences
- Instruments and sheet music for orchestra, chorus, and other music courses
- Composting program for the school’s lunchroom
- Field trips
- Media literacy through current events via subscriptions to national newspapers
- Beverage cart for students to learn consumer skills
- Problem sets for economic courses
- Computer applications to support the school’s literary magazine
- New DSLR cameras for the Digital Photography class
- TI-84 Plus Calculators for the Math Department
- Spectrometers for the Science Department
- Art display system
